Personality: At first glance, Rebekah can come off as cold, cruel, and rather spiteful. Centuries of being relatively unloved have caused her to erect barriers around her heart, and to close herself off from others. She is unused to being cared for, especially by anyone outside of her family, and becomes extremely suspicious anytime someone tries to be nice to her. Despite her indifferent attitude towards most humans, she isn't as careless with their lives as her brothers are. She can actually grow quite attached to some humans as is the case with her affections for Matt Donovan.

Underneath her tough facade, Rebekah is lonely and vulnerable. All that she really wants is to have a normal human life and to find someone to love who loves her back. She has led a rather difficult love life, her lovers tend to end up dying or betraying her. The only relationship that she's managed to keep going is the one between her brothers and herself. Although he has shown time and time again not to care for her, Rebekah continues to love and depend on her brother, Niklaus. Her blind trust in him even though he manipulates her carelessly, is partially why she cannot develop lasting relationships.

When it come to her family, Rebekah's loyal and protective streaks begin to show. Despite the fact that her family is fairly messed up, she refuses to hear a word against them and will defend her siblings until the end. Having lived through over a thousand years, Rebekah has learned the hard way that the only people who will always be there is her family. They might not be completely trustworthy but they are there if you need them.

History: Born in the 900s, Rebekah is the sole daughter of Mikael and Esther, and the sixth of seven children, Elijah, Finn, Niklaus, Kol, Henrik, and another brother who died before she was born. She grew up in a small village in the New World, and lived there in peace with her family for sixteen years. This all changed when Klaus and Henrik snuck out to watch the villagers transform on a full moon. Only Klaus returned as one of the wolves had killed Henrik while the boys were watching. Blinded by her grief, their mother Esther decided to cast The Immortality Spell on her remaining children, creating the original vampires. Reveling in their newfound abilities, they burned the White Oak, the only wood that could kill them, to the ground believing themselves to now be completely invulnerable. After their mother's death by what they believed to be their father's hands, Rebekah, Klaus and Elijah swore an oath to be 'together as one, always and forever'.

Rebekah met a vampire hunter named Alexander, a member of a group called The Five, while residing in Italy with her brothers. She fell in love with him and they planned to get married. However, when Alexander found out she was a vampire, The Five daggered all of each of the siblings with white oak ash daggers. Klaus was unaffected due to his werewolf lineage, and released her after killing Alexander and the rest of The Five. Despite his betrayal, she buried Alexander's body at the church where they had planned to marry. In the fifteenth century, the Mikaelsons were in England where they met Katerina Petrova, the first Petrova Doppleganger. Katerina's escape, destroyed Klaus and Elijah's relationship, and Rebekah has hated her ever since.

During the Roaring Twenties Rebekah and Klaus found themselves in Chicago where they met Stefan Salvatore, who Rebekah fell in love with. Unfortunately, Mikael arrived in the city searching for Klaus and the two Originals fled. Rebekah decided to stay with Stefan instead of continuing to run with Klaus, and he daggers her in retaliation. For ninety years, Rebekah remained neutralized inside a coffin which Klaus carried with him, along with the coffins containing Finn and Kol.

Once the witch Gloria revealed to Klaus that Rebekah had what she needed to contact The Original Witch, Klaus resurrected his sister. Rebekah was delighted to see Stefan again, but horrified to discover that she lost her necklace. Later, Rebekah realized that Stefan was in love another girl and that he wasn't completely on their side prompting her to inform Klaus. The three journey to Mystic Falls, where they intend to kill Elena which will hopefully fix the hybrid problem. After Klaus turned Tyler into a hybrid, Rebekah stayed to keep watch over him and Caroline. Going through Caroline's phone, she found a picture of Stefan and Elena, and noticed that Elena was wearing her necklace. Klaus eventually figured out how to successfully create hybrids, and Rebekah is disappointed to learn that he wants hybrids so he won't be alone. Upon learning that Mikael had been released and was coming for him, Klaus fled and left Rebekah behind. She moved into the Salvatore Boarding House, enrolled in Mystic Falls High School, joined the cheerleading squad and quickly formed a rivalry with Caroline.

When Elena revealed that she had discovered some of the Originals history from carvings in a cave, Rebekah invited her to come over and explained some of their history in more detail. Elena then corrected her to say that Klaus was the one who killed Esther not Mikael, a fact which horrified Rebekah. After she agreed to help them kill Klaus, Elena offered to help Rebekah prepare for the homecoming dance. While doing so she stabs Rebekah in the back with a White Oak Ash Dagger. Elena returned Rebekah to Klaus in exchange for Klaus sparing Jeremy's life, but Klaus redaggers her once it is discovered she knows the truth about their mother's death. Elijah un-daggered Rebekah along with the rest of the family, who all plan to leave Klaus alone, but they are stopped by the arrival of Esther. The Mikaelsons hold a ball at which Rebekah and Kol plan to kill Matt to hurt Elena, but realizing that she felt something for him Rebekah backed out. Drinking the champagne laced with Elena blood connected Rebekah to her siblings, and she and Elijah team up to stop their mother. She kept Elena hostage in the caves as incentive for the Salvatores to stop Esther before she killed the Originals.

Klaus and Rebekah then realized that there was another White Oak Tree that might be able to kill them so they decided to destroy it. While searching for the tree, Rebekah and Damon slept together and Sage entered her mind to find out what Rebekah is searching for. Sage also discovered that Damon was planning to kill all the Originals including Finn, who she loved so she betrayed Damon and warned Rebekah. She then stripped the White Oak Wood from the Wickery Bridge and burned it. After Finn returned to town, Rebekah decided to take revenge against Damon who she believed had actually liked her. She kidnapped him and took him to the mansion where she drained the vervain out of his system so that he could be compelled to tell the truth about the stakes. Stefan staked Finn and then brought the remaining stakes to the Mikaelsons, but Klaus refused to give up Damon since three stakes were missing. Touched by the Salvatore brothers devotion to each other, Rebekah released Damon under the condition that Stefan return to give the remaining White Oak Stakes to the Originals. She organized the school's decade dance, and began to fall for Matt Donovan, but Esther returned and possessed Rebekah's body in order to kill the Originals. Esther in Rebekah's body then went to Alaric's apartment and returned to her normal body after neutralizing Rebekah. Klaus undaggered her and she went to clean up after the school dance, where she is attacked by vampire Alaric. She told Klaus that she was going to leave town and asked him to come with her but he refused.

That night, Damon calls Rebekah to a warehouse to help him move Klaus' body but they are interrupted by Alaric who staked Klaus easily. Damon told Rebekah to run and he held off Alaric while she escaped. Rebekah and Elijah are then puzzled over the fact that Tyler Lockwood died but the other vampires sired by Klaus survived. They are both certain that Klaus was the original sire of the Salvatores and cannot figure out why the others are alive. Elijah wanted to run since he knows that Alaric will be after them next but Rebekah took matters into her own hands. She knew that Alaric's weakness was Elena so she decided to kill Elena and end the threat that Alaric posed once and for all. Rebekah stood in the middle of Wickery Bridge directly in Matt and Elena path. Startled, Matt swerved the car to avoid hitting her causing the truck goes over the bridge and killing Elena.

The next day, Rebekah was attacked by Damon with the White Oak Stake, but she was neutralized by wooden bullets. Rebekah awoke in a van with Caroline, who was then saved by Klaus, but Rebekah was taken to Pastor's farm and caged with Elena and Stefan. Touched by their love for each other, Rebekah helped Elena feed to complete the transition, and she is set free. She returned home to find her brother back in his body and she was furious that he saved Caroline but not her. Angry that after everything they've been through he doesn't care about her, Rebekah destroyed the last of Elena's human blood. Furious at her, Klaus disowned her and snapped her neck after which she moved in her own house and decided to throw a party.

April distracted Elena while Rebekah snapped Elena's neck and kidnapped her. Rebekah called Stefan and used Elena as bait to capture both Stefan and Caroline. She then compels them all to answer her questions honestly while she questioned them. After Elena admitted she doesn't love Stefan anymore, to compel him to forget Elena -- erase every memory, kiss, lie, ounce of pain, bit of love. He accepted but she refused to make him forget Elena the same way Klaus made him forget her. They all left and the race for the cure began, though Stefan and Rebekah decided to team up. They slept together and discover edthat they have much more common than they had originally thought. Despite the fact that Stefan and his friends killed Kol, Rebekah chose to continue their partnership. Rebekah, Stefan and Elena called a temporary truce on the island to find the cure but once they reach the cave; Rebekah snapped Stefan's neck, knowing that he would give the cure to Elena if he had the chance. Rebekah is neutralized by a grenade Vaughn stuck on her chest and Damon stays behind to dig out the spikes. Rebekah was surprised to learn that Katherine had stolen the cure and was a little sympathetic towards Elena after being told of Jeremy's death.

Since Elena didn't want the cure, Rebekah offered her a deal to get the cure together and only Rebekah will take it. They found Katherine in Pennsylvania and Elena pretended to be Katherine with Elijah while Rebekah kept an eye on Katherine. Rebekah and Damon went with Katherine to her house to retrieve the cure which is contained in a fish tank filled with vervain water. Katherine escaped and Rebekah took the cure only to find that it was a fake. Rebekah and Elijah went back to Mystic Falls, with Elijah in possession of the cure. He agreed to give Rebekah the cure if she could last a whole day without her vampire abilities. She attended prom and managed to refrain from using her abilities until Elena injured April. Matt asked her to heal April with her blood and Rebekah agrees though it meant she failed in her deal with Elijah. Unfortunately, it didn't matter because Elijah gave the cure to Silas and then Elena forced it into Katherine.

Matt and Rebekah began to grow closer, and Rebekah apologized once more for running him and Elena off Wickery Bridge. Rebekah, Matt and Caroline run into Alexander, Connor and Vaughn, a group of vampire hunters. Rebekah was with Matt, when he was put on a bomb trigger which would detonate several bombs placed in cars around them if Matt stepped off. Rebekah refused to leave Matt even though she'd survive if she supersped Matt away, because Matt wouldn't. She told him that after graduation she's going to take him travelling. Matt then revealed to her that he was wearing the Gilbert Ring and if she detonated the bomb, he might survive. She took his place on the bomb trigger then once he had left she supersped away. Later that night, Rebekah gave Matt the chance to back out of their traveling plans because they were made in such an intense situation, but to her delight Matt didn't back out.
